This is a small town and is situated in China's most diverse province Yunnan. Due to its small size, it's best explored on foot. This area is well known for its volcanoes and hot springs, which can be found at Téngchong. It once acted as the main commercial link of the ancient southwest Silk Road. The history of the city dates back to the 4th and 5th centuries. The city is home to the minority ethnic groups Han, Yi, Bai, Dai, and Hui.

Baoshan is home to beautiful Chinese villages and other great attractions.


Téngchong

The town is famous for its volcanoes and springs which can be seen from a distance. Téngchong has had over seventy earthquakes since 1500, with Daying Mountain experiencing most of them. Ma'an Mountain is well known for it has three volcanoes which have formed lakes.

Other well known attractions are the 80 vapor springs and hot springs which have scattered around the volcanoes. Téngchong is the largest vapour field in china. The Yihong Hot Lake is one of the largest hot spring lakes in China; it occupies an area of 10 square kilometer.

Other magnificent sights are Huaitaijing, Gumingquan, Xiaogunguo and Yanjingquan springs and waterfalls. The area is also known for the production of herbal medicines.


The Graveyard of the National Heroes

The graveyard is in honor of those who lost their lives during the war to recover Téngchong. The graveyard covers 10,000 square meter and its construction began in 1944 and was finished in July 1945. The major attractions on the site are the memorial tower and the martyrs' grave. Cypress trees have been planted on the site and they add more beauty to this peaceful site.

When the Japanese militants occupied the area in 1942, they killed many people. During the two years of their occupation more than 21,000 civilians were killed. In 1944 the Chinese soldiers came together to reclaim Téngchong, joined also by the Téngchong people. Although many were killed, they managed to get their land back.

The graveyard is home to 3,346 soldiers who were buried in rows. The only information on the graves is the names and ranks of the soldiers. No one knows where they came from, but all in all they are held in high regard.


Yunfeng Mountain

The mountain is situated at Myanmar border. For those who love hiking this will be a rare treat but you can also use the cable car to reach to the top. The mountain has over a thousand steps leading you to the top.

Atop the mountain you'll be able to see the entire region. Pagodas are scattered around the mountain and the temple of Yunfeng Si is also near. The mountain attracts a lot of visitors and pilgrims.


King of the Azalea in the World

The Azalea is one of the most famous flowers in China. The flower originated in china. Yunnan boasts of having the highest number of this beautiful flower. The flower's size is 1 to 2 meter but in Yunnan the flower is 3 meter and produces a lot of bloom. Many refer the Azalea flower found in Yunnan as the "Giant Azalea".

In 1981 Chinese scientists discovered the largest Azalea which was 25 meter high and the diameter was 3.07 meter. The flower is 500 years old and it has been under national protection, known as "King of the Azalea in the World".
